Lancers impress at Univ. of Cincinnati

CINCINNATI, Ohio - On a windy day, Grace's distance crew hit multiple high notes at the Oliver Nikoloff Invitational on Saturday.

The meet, hosted by the University of Cincinnati, saw several Lancers hit PRs while racing against much larger NCAA Div. I schools.

The men's 1,500-meter crew stole the show. Bryan Hernandez-Rios won the race with a time of 3:51.99, beating out a field of 37 runners that were largely comprised of NCAA Div. I programs like Ohio State, Cincinnati and Bowling Green. His time hit the NAIA "A" standard.

Dimitri Margaritidis placed fourth in the race when he crossed the finish line in 3:56.02.

Hernandez-Rios went on to grab a fifth-place showing in the 5,000 (14:46.12, NAIA "B"). Brandon Kleber was 19th in the race (15:09.57), Cole Johnston had a PR of 15:14.58, and Korry Hamlin posted a time of 15:50.53.

The men's 800 saw the Lancers put three runners in the top half of the field. Tanner Sallee led the way, finishing sixth with a time of 1:57.58.

Dimitri Margaritidis (12th place, 1:58.80) and Luke Smith (16th, 1:59.65) also posted sub-2:00 times.

Justin Van Prooyen also ran a solid 10,000-meter race, crossing the finish line in 32:28.37 (6th place) during his first 10k.

On the women's side, Kylie Sauder grabbed fourth place in the 800. Her NAIA "B" time of 2:15.42 only trailed runners from Toledo, Ohio State and Ohio.

Heather Plastow earned 14th place in the race at 2:20.05, followed by Anna Hulstedt in 15th (2:20.06) and Tara Friesen in 24th (2:23.29).

In the women's 1,500, Plastow placed ninth (4:45.20) in a field of 50 runners. Freshman Addison Grady was 35th in the same race with a finish of 5:00.81.

Katie Acker ran to a seventh-place finish in the 3,000 steeplechase (12:08.01).

During the women's 5,000, Carmen Trier had a time of 18:32.27 (31st place), and Mallory Hiatt ended in 19:05.18 (36th).
