MARION, Ind. - Grace's volleyball team was unable to deal No. 5 Indiana Wesleyan its first loss of the season on Wednesday.
The Lancers (13-3, 4-1 Crossroads League) fell in three sets, snapping Grace's six-game winning streak.
Grace fell behind early in the first set after losing the first few points and never recovered. The Wildcats (13-0, 5-0 CL) grabbed a 10-point cushion and rolled to the 25-16 victory.
Grace was muted to six kills in the set compared to IWU's 15.
The second set began much closer. IWU still owned a slight edge in the early portions, but Cassadi Colbert's kills sparked a 4-0 run to pull Grace to within 12-11.
The Wildcats responded with six straight points of their own. Grace could not find a counter and fell in the set by 10.
IWU charged ahead again to begin the third set; the Wildcats jumped in front 8-2, but Grace was not prepared to go down without a fight.
The Lancers erupted with a 9-2 run of their own to pull within one at 18-17. Alisha Leffring helped the charge defensively with a pair of blocks, and Morgan Syoen also served up an ace.
But IWU quickly erased Grace's momentum with five unanswered points, using that run to finish off the set 25-19.
Leffring paced the Lancers with 8 kills, 2 solo blocks and 4 block assists, and Jadyn Ross had seven kills and nine digs.
Colbert picked up six kills, and Liz Schmidt collected nine digs.
The Lancers will remain on the road this week for two more matches. Grace will play at Marian on Friday at 7 p.m. and at Spring Arbor on Saturday at 3 p.m.
