GRAND RAPIDS, Mich.. – Grace College's men's tennis team split a pair of weekend matches with No. 17 Ferris State and Cornerstone.
The Lancers dropped the Friday afternoon contest against the 17th ranked Bulldogs 7-0.
Javier Gallego and Pablo Gregori nearly pulled the upset at No. 1 doubles but ultimately fell 6-4. The Lancers dropped No. 2 doubles 6-1 and were unable to take a match at No. 3 doubles.
At No. 1 singles, Gallego again nearly found success taking the second set 6-1. Gallego dropped sets one and three in a pair of hotly contested affairs, losing both sets 6-4.
Salva Pons also forced three sets of play at No. 4 singles, winning set two in convincing fashion 6-2.
Despite playing competitive matches up and down the scorecard Grace was unable to take a point from Ferris State, falling 7-0.
The Lancers bounced back on Saturday with a 6-1 victory over Cornerstone.
Grace took the doubles point 2-1 thanks to the pair of Gallego and Gregori winning at No. 1 doubles (6-3), and partners Pons and Manuel Marques clinched the point at No. 2 doubles with a 7-5 decision.
Luis Cordoba and Cesar Garcia narrowly missed helping Grace sweep doubles action, dropping No. 3 doubles 6-7.
Gallego dropped the first match of doubles play 2-6 but bounced back with match wins of 6-3 and 6-4 to grab the first singles point.
Pablo Gregori, Cordoba, Pons and Marques all won in straight sets to push Grace to the convincing 6-1 win over the Eagles.
The Lancers will return to action on March 1 to start a stretch of five of six ranked opponents.
