MARION, Ind. - The outdoor season for Grace's track and field team officially kicked off at the IWU Polar Bear Invitational.
Grace garnered several top-three finishes in various events and also set a school record in the team's outdoor debut.
Mallory Hiatt produced a school record in one of the final events for Grace. She ran a 17:59.67 in the 5,000, becoming the first women's runner to eclipse the 18-minute mark in team history. She bettered the previous record from 2022 (Heather Plastow).
The women's 1,500 saw Grace finish 1-2. Kylie Sauder broke the tape in a time of 4:47.08, and Anna Hulstedt was second at 4:49.33.
Several additional runners for Grace also hit PRs in the 5,000. Tara Friesen (18:23.72), Caroline Kolb (19:30.45), Ellie Wagoner (19:47.63) and Grace Geller (19:54.61) bettered their previous bests in the women's 5,000. Ian Harrold (16:10.88) and Ian Cross (16:50.78) hit PRs in the men's race.
On the men's side, Mick Wright had top-15 finishes in both the 100 (11.12 seconds) and the 200 (22.60), and Daniel Stoll grabbed eighth as well in the 200 (22.40).
Kevin Zehr ran the 400 in 54.45 seconds for seventh place, and Brady Hunsberger (4:07.12) and Luis Loera (4:08.14) ran well in the 1,500.
Hayden Mullett (33:05.09) and Ryun Hoffert (35:07.55) finished sixth and eighth respectively in the 10,000, and Justin Farris was third in the high jump (6-3.5).
Brock Lengacher led Grace in the shot put (47-0.75), discus (136-3) and hammer (130-9). Ethan Brown paced the team in the javelin (158-8).
For the women, Zoe Huley blitzed to a time of 12.69 in the 100 dash, and Shannon Farnsworth ran a 12.84 in the same race.
Huley was also ninth in the 200 (26.67), and Tame Baylis led Grace in the 800 (2:30.26).
Madelyn Yoder (16.48) and Emma Conrad (16.49) finished neck and neck in the 100 hurdles, and Emily McCreary finished eighth in the high jump (5-1).
Breanna Hyde was fourth in both the long jump (16-8.75) and the triple jump (33-10.25).
Lanae Crowe was runner-up in the discus (136-3), and Mackenzie Parker led Grace in the shot put (38-4.25).
The Lancers are in action next at the George Glass Invitational in Upland, Ind., on April 6.
