PEACHTREE CITY, Ga. - Grace College's men's soccer team fell just short of knocking off the No. 3 St. Thomas on Saturday afternoon.
Despite claiming an early lead in the contest, the Lancers (0-2-1) fell to the third ranked Bobcats 2-1. The match was a part of the NAIA Atlanta Classic, which includes a plethora of the top ranked NAIA soccer teams.
The Lancers struck first just 15 minutes into to grab a 1-0 lead over St. Thomas (2-0).
The goal came courtesy of
Kyle Holwerda who netted his third goal of the season after receiving a pass from
Daniel Santos Rosa.
St. Thomas drew the game back even just 12 minutes later. The game remained tied for the remainder of the half.
Following the halftime intermission Grace continued to push the pace of play, but the Lancers were unable to find the go-ahead marker.
As the game neared the midpoint of the second half, the Bobcats broke through Grace's defense and buried the would be game-winning goal.
The Lancers were unable to answer back, ultimately falling 2-1.
Grace will return to action on Monday for another top-10 showdown. The Lancers play No. 10 Mobile at 12 p.m.
