WINONA LAKE, Ind. - Grace's women's tennis team moved into sole possession of third place in the conference standings with a 7-0 win over Huntington on Monday afternoon. The Lancers took every available point up for grabs on the day in straight sets.
The doubles point was secured with wins from the No. 1 and No. 3 courts, 6-2 and 6-4, respectively.
Jimena Ramirez and
Alejandra Sandoval partnered together at No. 1, picking up the 6-2 victory. The clinching point came from
Molli Runestad and
Natalie Schoenherr to put the Lancers on the board first.
Geraldine Salinas and
Lydia Ruegsegger made it a clean sweep despite a closer scoreline of 7-6 (4) over on court two.
Jimena Ramirez got back in the win column, winning with relative ease on the No. 1 court. She went 6-2, 6-1 to secure the first point from singles play.Â
Alejandra Sandoval followed with a 6-1, 6-4 contest to put the Lancers one point away. Salinas came in with a 6-1, 6-1 triumph over on court two, giving the home team the 4-0 lead.
Molli Runestad and
Natalie Schoenherr added two more points for Grace. Both won in straight sets 6-1, 6-2 and 6-4, 6-0 to increase the spread.Â
Lydia Ruegsegger tallied the final point of the afternoon, needing a few extra games to take care of business, 7-6(5), 7-5.
Grace will take a break from Crossroads League action to take part in the ITA Regional Championships. The tournament, hosted by Indiana Wesleyan, runs from September 19-22.
Jimena Ramirez made an impressive run in last year's tournament, advancing all the way to finals.
