JACKSON, Mich. - Grace's bowling squad kicked off the season with the Dirty Bird Classic.
The tournament was held at JAX 60, where Grace will return at least two more times this year.
The squads performed well. Grace's men grabbed eighth out of 15 teams, and the women finished 10th out of 14.
The men seemed to improve as the day went on. They bowled 804-827-897 across the first three games. In baker games, the men bowled a 972 followed by an 880. In total, Grace collected 4,380 pins.
On the women's side, Grace's team games produced 797-729-713 for the three games. In baker play, the women were consistent with 764 and 756. Overall, Grace's women knocked down 3,759 pins.
The freshman class led the way for Grace's women; the team's top-four finishers were all rookies. Addison Jackson paced the women with a three-game total of 486 (161-150-175). Kiley Penzien (169-159-142) was second for Grace, and Jadelynn Girouard (154-149-132) was third.Â
Madison Coquillard (156-145) topped 150 for an average, and Kit Sprunger had a high game of 157.
The men were also led by a freshman. Nick Ransbottom placed eighth overall among all bowlers. He saw vast improvement in every game, starting with a 155 before ending with 207-244 (606). His 244 was the second-highest overall score in the third game.
Curtis Payne (186-146-178) and Joey Larison (152-201-151) finished neck and neck for the men, and Corbin Payne posted a high score of 170.
The Lancers will compete again on Oct. 12-13 at the Columbia Western Shootout.
