KISSIMMEE, Fla. - Grace's men's soccer team took care of business in its opening match of the 2025 NCCAA National Championships on Monday.
The Lancers beat Dallas Christian 4-1 in the first pool play match at the Austin-Tindall Sports Complex.
Grace used goals from four different players during Monday's victory.
Grace jumped into the role of aggressor to start the match. The Lancers hit two goalposts in the first five minutes, including an attempt from Joao Parreira and another from Juan Garcia.
The Lancers peppered DCC's goal with five shots over the first 12 minutes.
But despite Grace's shot dominance, it was DCC who grabbed the first lead of the match.
The Crusaders took a free kick near the midway line. The ball found an awkward spot in Grace's defense, bouncing untouched over the Lancers and into the back of the net.
The Lancers responded swiftly to quickly erase the lead.
Six minutes later, Tren Schurgers advanced past midfield and passed ahead to Diego Yanes. Yanes took a few dribbles and then fired a low shot to the right side of the goal; his shot snuck under the goalkeeper for the equalizing strike.
Eight minutes before halftime, Grace took the lead for good. Luis Munoz and Mateus Pereira combined on a few quick passes, and Munoz blasted a shot to the right of the goalie for the go-ahead goal.
Grace outshot DCC 11-3 before halftime and took three of the four corner kicks in the half as well.
The Lancers strengthened their hold on the match with a strong start to the second half.
Grace had five shots and a corner kick in the first five minutes after halftime, eventually finding the team's third goal.
Teague Misner and Munoz teamed up on the right side of the field, allowing Munoz to fire a cross into a dangerous position. Garcia accepted the cross and rifled a thunderous volley into the net to put Grace ahead by two.
The Lancers continued to apply consistent pressure on the Crusaders' backline, in total trying 18 shots over the final 45 minutes of regulation.
In the 79th minute, Grace completed its scoring. Diogo Gomes lofted a pass behind DCC's defenders. Parreira received the cross and pulled back a pass to Joao Perreira who slotted his left-footed shot into the net for the final 4-1 scoreline.
Grace finished with a commanding 29-5 advantage in shot attempts. Nearly half (14) of Grace's shots were on target. Grace also had a 12-2 advantage in corner kicks.
The Lancers have one pool play match remaining. Grace will take on Nelson American Indian College on Wednesday at 5 p.m. A win would guarantee Grace's spot in the national semifinals, which would take place on Friday. The national championship match is set for Saturday night.
