Lancers Cruise Past Nelson AIC Clinch Semifinal Berth

KISSIMMEE, Fla. - Grace College's men's soccer team eased their way past Nelson American Indian College, beating the Warriors 6-0 to clinch their spot in the NCCAA National Tournament semifinals.

The Lancers (15-6-3) led from the opening minutes and scored three goals in each half of a game that was never in doubt. Grace had four different goal scorers in the game. Luis Munoz led the way with two goals.

The Lancers will play Columbia International on Friday at 6 p.m. for the right to play in the national championship game.

It took just over five minutes into the game for the Lancers to draw first blood. Diego Yanes scored off of an assist from Sebastian Lozano and the Lancers were off to the races.

Five minutes later the Lancers scored again pushing their lead to 2-0 just 11:51 into the game. Lozano played a crossing pass into the box where Yanes made an acrobatic play on the ball which went toward goal and was finished with confidence by Juan Garcia.

The Warriors came back with a pair of shots as they attempted to stem the Lancer tide but Ben Kenn was up to the task keeping Nelson AIC off the board.

On their next attack on goal the Lancers scored again. Luis Munoz did it himself, scoring unassisted to give Grace a three goal lead and a stranglehold on the game 25 minutes into the first half.

The rest of the half passed by without incident as Grace entered the halftime intermission ahead 3-0.

Grace held a 9-3 shot advantage and attempted the only corner kick of the half.

As the second half got underway Grace continued to dominate possession. The Lancers had four shot attempts within the first 10 minutes before breaking through for their fourth goal. Munoz netted his second of the game after being set up by Teague Misner.

Just four minutes passed before the Lancers scored again when Garcia forced a turnover and played a perfect crossing pass to Joao Pereira whose shot sliced into the goal to push the lead to five.

The Lancers defense was formidable, denying any credible scoring chances even deep into the one-sided affair.

The Lancers final marker of the night was an own goal when a Warrior defender tried to block a crossing pass and inadvertently played the ball into his own net.

With eight minutes left in the game Lancers' senior manager Andrew Johns checked into the game playing out the final minutes of the Lancers 6-0 win.

Grace finished the game with a 21-4 shot advantage. Kenn got the complete game shutout.
