SPRING ARBOR, Mich. - Grace's men's basketball team continued its perfect start to the season with a 91-79 win at Spring Arbor on Saturday.
The No. 1 Lancers improve to 10-0 on the season, including 4-0 in Crossroads League play.
The teams traded scores to begin the contest with SAU opening up a slight 13-8 edge.
Gage Sefton scored five points in a row to tie the game, and Gavin Betten's bucket put the Lancers ahead by two.
Grace opened up a seven-point lead after Hunter Walston's basket and Grady Carpenter's triple.
At the midway mark of the half, Grace led 25-15 on Ian Raasch's score.
SAU rallied well to close out the half, chopping Grace's cushion down to three with 2:31 remaining.
But the Lancers reasserted themselves and took a 45-37 lead into halftime.
Grace shot 55 percent from the floor in the opening half, including a sizzling 64 percent on 3-pointers (7 of 11).
In the second half, the Lancers wasted little time taking control. Ten unanswered points pushed the Lancers in front 55-40; Sefton scored four during that spurt.
The lead ballooned to 19 (68-49) after a triple from Michael Wellman with 10:54 left in the game.
Spring Arbor did its best to keep Grace in range. The Cougars capitalized on a series of Grace turnovers, managing to whittle Grace's lead down to nine with seven minutes left. Grace had 14 second-half turnovers.
Sefton scored at key junctures multiple times to slow SAU's momentum. His 3-pointer with less than two minutes remaining seemed to take the life out of the Cougars' sails as Grace strolled away to the 12-point win.
Grace finished the game shooting 54 percent from the floor and 55 percent (11-20) on 3-pointers. Grace outrebounded SAU by 16 and scored 35 points off the bench.
Sefton tied for scoring honors with 25 points. He shot 7 of 9 from the floor, 2 of 3 on triples and 9 of 9 at the free throw line.
Ian Raasch tallied 12 points, 7 rebounds and 2 blocks, and Walston notched 11 points, 9 boards, 2 assists, 2 steals and 1 block.
Wellman did not miss a shot for his nine points, Cannen Houser collected 9 points, 4 rebounds, 3 assists and 3 steals, and Betten also scored nine points with 4 rebounds, 2 assists, 1 block and 1 steal.
Luke Bricker (8 points), Grady Carpenter (6 points, 3 assists, 2 steals) and Tyler Raasch (2 points, 7 rebounds, 2 blocks) completed Grace's scoring.
All nine players who saw the court for Grace made a field goal with every player attempting at least three shots.
The Lancers are home next week on Friday. Grace will play Trinity Christian at 1:30 p.m. as part of Grace's annual Elementary Day, which welcomes hundreds of local elementary students in attendance for free.
