HILTON HEAD, S.C. - Grace's men's tennis team gave NCAA Div. I George Mason all it could handle on Tuesday.
The Lancers served for match point before ultimately falling 4-3 in a match played at Hilton Head High School.
Nearly every match was fiercely contested between the two sides, beginning with doubles' competition.
Grace struck first, claiming the doubles' point. Luis Cordoba and Benjamin Rahime battled to a 7-5 win at No. 3 doubles. Pablo Gregori and Salva Pons secured the doubles' point with a 7-5 win on the top doubles' court.
The Lancers' lead extended when Rahime collected his second win of the day; he won 6-3, 6-4 at No. 4 singles.
The Patriots battled back with a two-set win at No. 1, but Manuel Marques won at No. 6 singles in three sets to put Grace one match away from the victory.
George Mason produced an impressive comeback, however. The Patriots won the three final singles matches with each coming in three sets to secure the team win. Grace won the opening set in two of the courts, but George Mason managed to survive with tiebreaking wins over Salva Pons (No. 2), Artur Pons (No. 3) and Cordoba (No. 4).
The Lancers will end their road trip with a match at No. 13 Cumberland (Tenn.).
