SPRING ARBOR, Mich. - The Grace softball team fell short at Spring Arbor in a doubleheader on Saturday.
SAU won 6-0 and 10-4 in a Crossroads League twin bill.
In the opener, Grace struggled to produce offense. The Lancers had singles in the second, third and sixth innings, but the Lancers were unable to find runs from those hits.
Bela Duran was 1 for 2, and Halle Nett and Daylie Rickard also had a hit.
The second game saw Grace break onto the scoreboard first.
Grace's first two batters were retired in the opening inning. But Sydney Argo, Tia O'Connor and Paige McCorkle produced three straight singles to score a run.
Grace's 1-0 lead was short-lived, however. The Cougars scored three runs in the bottom of the first, also doing so with two outs.
The score remained 3-1 for the next two innings. But SAU caught fire to end the game, plating three times in the fourth, twice in the fifth and twice in the sixth.
Grace did its best to keep pace, using a big sixth inning to stay within striking distance.
Argo and O'Connor led off the inning with singles. Rickard and Montana Brincks each drove in a run with a single, and Avery Sleeth drove in Grace's third run of the inning.
The scoring could have been even greater, but the Lancers were thrown out at home after Sleeth's single.
Grace was unable to generate a dramatic comeback in the seventh inning and had to settle for the defeat.
Argo batted 3 for 4 with two runs scored, O'Connor was 2 for 4, and Rickard had a run, a hit and an RBI.
The Lancers return home on Monday for the final time this year. Grace will host St. Francis at 3 p.m. Monday at Coach Phil Dick Field.
