The Lancers immediately jumped into their trademarked possession game on Saturday. Grace moved the ball fluidly and consistently. Grace kept the Yellowjackets pinned into their end of the field throughout the first half.
Grace pulled ahead in the 13th minute. Audrey Abel tried a shot that was partially blocked by a Graceland defender; the loose ball fell to Rylee Burns in front of the net, and Burns beat the goalkeeper from close range.
Seven minutes later, Grace doubled its lead. Ellie Grieser sent a sharp cross in front of the goal, connecting with Abby Hodkin. Hodkin's shot glanced off the goalpost, and Cassidy Felger pounded her rebounded shot into the net.
Felger found her second goal of the half in the 28th minute. She and Nora Pollock combined on a few quick passes in the penalty box, handing Felger another short-range finish past the goalkeeper. Felger has now scored two goals in each of Grace's first two games this year.
Grace had more chances but was unable to add to its lead, taking a 3-0 lead into halftime.
The Lancers amassed 13 shots and nine corner kicks in the first half; Graceland did not have a shot or a corner in the half.
It was much of the same for Grace in the second. The Lancers had no trouble controlling possession, but they were unable to find another goal.
The closest Grace came was seven minutes into the second half when Ellie Grieser's attempt hit the crossbar.
The Yellowjackets managed one shot attempt early in the second half, but the rest of the half belonged to Grace. The Lancers fired off 10 more shots to go along with eight additional corner kicks over the final 45 minutes.
Ivy Cline recorded a saveless shutout as Grace's goalkeeper; she was protected well by the backline of Zoe Mueller, Jaylin Young, Heidi Kever and Hannah Medlin.
The Lancers will begin a three-game road trip next week, including at Indiana Tech on Wednesday and No. 4 Columbia on Saturday.
Grace's next home match is Sept. 6 against St. Ambrose.
