WINONA LAKE, Ind. - Grace College's men's soccer team picked up its third consecutive win with a convincing 4-0 win over Trinity on Saturday evening.
The result was rarely in doubt for the Lancers (4-1-2) who controlled the pace of play from the opening whistle. The Lancers had their first chance on goal just two minutes into the game which set the table for the Lancers who doubled up the Trolls over the course of the game.
In the 15th minute Grace nearly broke through as
Luis Munoz had a pair of shots on goal that forced a save from the Trinity keeper. The Lancers did eventually break through with 15 minutes left in the half.
Juan Garcia made a long pass up the sideline to Sebastion Lozano who made one move past a defender before slicing a cross to
Vasco Tavares who buried the ball at point-blank range to push the Lancers ahead 1-0.
The lead was doubled in dramatic fashion late in the half as the Lancers scored with just 12 seconds left.
The Lancers were awarded a corner kick which Munoz arced into the box where
Diego Yanes was able to make a leaping attempt and headed the ball into goal to give the Lancers a two-goal cushion heading into the half.
Grace had a 10-4 shot advantage and a 4-2 edge in corner kicks.
It took the Lancers little time in the second half to take a stranglehold on the game.
Munoz and Lozano assisted on
Osmildo Estrela's goal and a little over a minute later Yanes capitalized on a scramble in front of the net to give the Lancers a four-goal lead.
Tavares rang one off the crossbar just moments later as the Lancers continued to pour on the offense.
The Trolls pushed late to break up the shut out but they were unable to solve the Lancers defense.
Pedro Galante and
Ben Kenn combined for the five shutout.
The Lancers will be back in action on Wednesday as they host #RV Governors State at 7 p.m.
