WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. - Grace's women's soccer team produced a strong result on the road, tying No. 5 Cumberlands 0-0 on Tuesday night.
The Lancers (6-0-2) remain unbeaten on the season, nearly taking down the fifth-ranked Patriots (6-0-3) on their home turf.
Grace dominated the shot count, finishing the match with a 10-3 shot advantage. Cumberlands had just one shot in the second half.
The match began late with a lightning delay but quickly settled into a possession battle.
Each team took turns with possession although Grace was the clear early aggressor. In the first 17 minutes, Grace tried three shots with a pair of corner kicks.
Nora Pollock and Cassidy Felger's shots were saved, and Madelief Lowik's attempt went high.
Cumberlands's only stats for the first 33 minutes of the match were fouls, which included a yellow card.
The Patriots finally managed two shots over the final 12 minutes, but neither attempt was on target.
The match entered halftime scoreless.
In the second half, Grace's chances multiplied. The Lancers had a 7-1 edge in shots over the final 45 minutes.
Eight minutes into the half, Pollock fired off a hard left-footed shot that was saved.
Two minutes later, Ellie Grieser tried two shots. Her first attempt was a long, looping effort that went high. Her second came from a pass by Rylee Burns, but Grieser's low shot was stopped by the goalkeeper.
With 19 minutes on the clock, Cassidy Felger found Audrey Abel outside the penalty box. Abel's low drive was saved.
A minute afterwards, Felger shot with her left foot from a similar spot as Abel, but again her attempt was saved.
The final shot of the match came on a free kick after Pollock was fouled driving toward the penalty box. Abel's free kick beat the wall with her shot but couldn't beat the goalie.
Cumberlands did not have a shot attempt over the final 30:49, finding limited chances in the face of Grace's stout defending.
Ivy Cline did not need to make a save in her shutout performance as Grace's goalkeeper; the Patriots finished the match with zero shots on goal. Jaylin Young, Zoe Mueller, Hannah Medlin, Elizabeth Maciejewski and Heidi Kever did much of the defending on the night.
Defensively, the Lancers now have seven shutouts in their eight matches.
Grace will return home on Saturday for the team's final nonconference match, hosting Shawnee State at 1 p.m. at 1st Source Bank Field.
