Short Claims Medalist Honors in Dramatic Playoff

SOUTH BEND, Ind. - Grace College's women's golf team claimed second place at the Battle at Blackthorn on Tuesday afternoon.

The Lancers led the tournament field after the first day and finished second falling only to No. 24 Bethel. Grace's final mark of 622 was the sixth best two-round in program history.

The Lancers were led to the runner-up finish by Camille Short who tied atop the leader board before claiming the overall medalist honors with a win in the playoff.

Short carded a mark of 75 in the first and second rounds to tie her for the lowest score in the two-day tournament. It was also tied for the eighth lowest two-round score in program history.

The 18th hole was the playoff hole and Short very nearly eagled for the win, finishing with a short putt for the birdie and the medalist honors.

"Camille was nothing short of phenomenal today," raved Grace head coach Denny Duncan. "She was incredibly consistent on both days and showed tremendous poise on the playoff hole."

Brette Hanavan and Trinity Bramer also claimed top-10 finishes as the teammates tied for seventh place. Hanavan scored 80-77 and Bramer broke 80 on both days with marks of 78-79.

Grace Beerman was next in line for the Lancers as she went 78-83 and for a 13th place finish.

Kiley Standring and Lexi Kelly finished neck and neck, with marks of 164 and 167 to finish 18th and 19th.

Reagan Clifton and Raigan King also finished in succession, finishing 40th and 41st with marks of 182 and 186 respectively.

"We led after the first 18 and played well enough to give ourselves a chance to win today, the other team was just a little better," Duncan continued. "We tip our hat to them and move forward, but I am really proud of the way we played today."

The Lancers will next be in action on Monday and Tuesday as they host their home match at Stonehenge Golf Course.
