WINONA LAKE, Ind. - Grace continued its dazzling goal-scoring form with a 7-0 rout of Huntington on Saturday.
The No. 23 Lancers (9-0-2, 2-0 Crossroads League) continued to cement their reputation as the NAIA's top-scoring team with another impressive offensive display.
Grace, who has yet to lose this season, is outscoring its opponents 61-3.
Grace scored in bunches during the first half. The Lancers netted four first-half goals, scoring each in a close pairing within minutes of each other.
The team's first goal came in the 13th minute. Nora Pollock intercepted a defensive pass from Huntington in a dangerous position; Pollock dribbled into open space and shot a laser above the goalkeeper's head for the match's opening goal.
At the 13:41 mark, Pollock provided the spark for a second goal. She raced past a pair of defenders on the right side of the field and crossed into the box. Rosalie Gefrorer met the cross and slotted in her first goal.
Ten minutes later, Grace scored two goals in less than a minute. At the 24:14 mark, Grace struck lethally on a counterattack, using quick passing from Joya Lienammer and Pollock to set up Rylee Burns for a close-range finish.
The Lancers immediately stole the ensuing kickoff and raced down for another goal. This time, Cassidy Felger provided the cross, and Gefrorer pushed in her second goal of the half. The two goals came 32 seconds apart.
Grace finished the half with a 13-0 shot advantage and took all eight corner kicks before halftime.
The scoring continued shortly into the second half. Grace quickly earned a corner kick. Audrey Abel rolled a pass off the corner kick into Abby Hodkin, and Hodkin curled in a deep shot from well outside the the penalty box.
Grace added a sixth goal before five minutes of the second half had expired. Heidi Kever threaded a leading pass to Gefrorer, who promptly crossed into the box. Felger connected with the cross and pounded in her effort inside the goalpost.
In the 69th minute, Grace added a penalty kick goal. The Lancers were fouled inside the penalty box, and Zoe Mueller thumped the PK under the crossbar for a 7-0 lead.
The Lancers finished the game with a 20-2 advantage in shots and 13-0 in corner kicks.
Gefrorer scored two goals with an assist, and Pollock had a goal with two assists. Felger scored one goal and added an assist.
Ivy Cline registered two saves to earn the shutout in goal. Grace's defense has now produced nine shutouts across the team's 11 matches.
Grace will face one of its most challenging weeks ahead with two ranked battles on the road. The Lancers will travel to No. 8 Indiana Wesleyan on Wednesday night followed by a trip to No. 4 Marian on Saturday.
