Box Score WINONA LAKE, Ind. - Grace College's men's soccer team used a dominant performance on Saturday night to fuel a 2-0 win over Rochester Christian.
The Lancers (2-1-2) controlled the pace of play throughout the match and had an eye-popping 33-shot advantage over the Warriors enroute to the two-goal win.
Grace wasted little time in creating offensive chances with a corner kick and a near miss from
Juan Garcia.
Luis Munoz and
Maxime Bregeon each rang a shot off the post as Grace began to pepper the Warriors goal.
Garcia had another shot on goal that was saved but then with 10:33 left in the half the Lancers finally broke through.
Luis Munoz crossed a ball into the box off of a corner kick and
Miguel Lourenco headed in the go-ahead goal to break the deadlock.
The Lancers continued to generate scoring chances into intermission with two more corner kicks and a shot from
Teague Misner.
Grace had a 10-2 shot advantage at the intermission and had seven more corner kicks.
Within the first three minutes of the second half the Lancers had five shots on goal as their dramatic barrage on goal continued. Grace eventually broke through for the second goal just minutes later.
Lourenco had two shots in quick succession, the second of which he blitzed past the keeper for his second goal of the night to double the Lancers lead.
Five minutes later Grace hit the framework of the goal for the third time of the night when
Vasco Tavares hit the crossbar.
As the final minutes ticked off the clock the game turned into a shooting gallery for the ferocious Lancers. Grace had 25 second half shots, 12 of which were on goal.
At the final horn Grace was victorious 2-0 and held a clear advantage in every statistical category.
Grace had a 35-2 shot advantage and a 16-1 lead in corner kicks. Grace was also whistled for two less fouls and had one yellow card while Rochester had three.
The Lancers will be back in action on Wednesday when they play host to No. 12 Indiana Tech.
