WINONA LAKE, Ind. - A dominant offensive performance lifted Grace's volleyball team past Goshen in four sets on Saturday.
The Lancers (8-6, 1-1 Crossroads League) racked up 60 kills while hitting at a .312 percentage, picking up a win at the Manahan Orthopaedic Capital Center.
In the opening set, Anna Elkin was nearly unstoppable. She had three of Grace's first four kills, helping Grace go on a quick 11-2 run.
Goshen could not slow down the Lancers as Grace won 25-15. Elkin racked up eight kills on a .538 percentage in the set, nearly outdoing the Maple Leafs (10 kills) on her own. Elkin had eight of Grace's 13 kills in the set.
The Lancers grabbed another quick lead in the second set. Grace held a seven-point lead late in the set; Goshen did its best to rally with four unanswered points, but Abby Leffring ended the set with a kill as Grace won 25-21.
Leffring had five kills in the set, and fellow freshman Molly Hofmann had four kills. The Lancers amassed 17 kills in the win.
The Maple Leafs survived a sweep with an eight-point win in the third set. Goshen had fewer kills than Grace in the set, but the Lancers committed six more attack errors to hurt their cause.
Grace struck back swiftly with a 25-14 win in set four to close out the match. Midway into the set, the Lancers used an 11-2 run to sprint away from the Maple Leafs. Leffring had three kills during Grace's spurt, and Elkin and Reagan Owens each aced. Carsyn Witt ended the match with a kill.
In the match, Grace had a dominant advantage in kills (60 to 40). The Lancers hit at a .312 percentage.
Elkin led all players with 15 kills (.273 percentage) while adding two aces, and Leffring had nine kills on 14 attempts (.571 percentage).
Witt passed out 34 assists with three kills, and Hoffman and Levyn Snow each had six kills.
Liz Schmidt had a match-high 21 digs, Emma Blackford aced four times with six digs, and Leah Henderson added four kills and two block assists.
Next week, the Lancers will travel to No. 22 Taylor on Wednesday before returning home Saturday for a 1 p.m. match with No. 23 Spring Arbor.
