FORT WAYNE, Ind. - Grace's track and field team enjoyed their first indoor meet of 2026 at Purdue Fort Wayne's Mastodon Invitational on Saturday.
Grace broke two school records during the meet and tied another record during an impressive day.
Michael Muiruri overtook one of the oldest remaining indoor school records on Saturday. He leaped 46-feet-0.75 in the triple jump, winning the event in the process. His mark topped the 1999 school record (45 feet) held by Chris Frisbie.
Mick Wright set the 60 meter school record; he finished in fourth place at 6.93 seconds, two hundredths of a second faster than the previous record (John Green, 2020).
Lani Calizo impressed in her collegiate debut. The freshman tied the indoor school record in the high jump, clearing 5-feet-3 on her final attempt to equal the school record. She won the event as a result and hit an NCCAA standard.
Makayla Neal (4-11) and Molly Hofmann (4-9) also hit the NCCAA standard in the high jump, placing third and seventh respectively.
Cherish Ray produced two top-10 finishes; she was runner-up in the 400 (1:02.16) and was ninth in the 200 (27.62). She reached the NCCAA qualifying standard in both events. Elyse Genzink was fourth in the 400 (1:08.63).
In the women's mile, Cece Mitchell was fourth (5:24.09), followed by Cadence Manning in fifth (5:32.90), and Grace Pettit in 10th (5:39.05).
Addi Dewey was runner-up in the 3,000 at 10:37.12, and Morgan Welch placed fifth in the 800 (2:25.88).
Freshman Abby Affholter was 10th in both the shot put (31-4.75) and the weight throw (37-0.25).
Jackson Winey placed fourth in the 400 (53.35), Kyle Olszewski was eighth (54.58) and Gavin Sowles (55.81) was 10th.
Hunter Quadlin was Grace's top finisher in the men's mile, grabbing eighth place at 4:34.94, and Brady Hunsberger nabbed third place in the 3,000 (8:55.46).
The men's 4x400 relay squad of Ethan Cummins, Ty McPhatter, Wright and Luis Loera placed third (3:36.74).
Zach Vonk was fifth in the long jump (20-11.75) with Luke Mansfield not far behind (20-10.5).
The Lancers will next compete at the Bill Clinger Classic at Grand Valley State on Friday.
