WARSAW, Ind. - Grace College's men's tennis team kicked off their spring campaign with a 4-3 win against Maryville, an NCAA Div. II school.
The Lancers (3-2) and Saints squared off indoors at the Warsaw Racquet Club.
Grace jumped out to a strong start by sweeping doubles' play.
Benjamin Rahine and Mahefa Rakotomalala blitzed their opponents at No. 1 doubles (6-1).
Andreas Polichronopoulos and Stergios Papadopoulos teamed up for a narrow 7-5 win at No. 2 doubles, and Manuel Marques and Aurelien Coan pulled out another hard-fought 6-4 win at No. 3.
Grace needed to win half of the singles' matches to take the overall victory, and they did exactly that.
Polichronopoulos won in straight sets at No. 1 singles, and Rahine did the same at No. 2.
Marques clinched the team victory with a three-set winner at No. 3 singles.
Grace's next match is scheduled for March 7 against St. Francis (Ill.)
