Grace College to add competitive cheer in 2026-27

WINONA LAKE, Ind. - Grace College's athletic department is excited to announce the addition of competitive cheer to its varsity sport offerings, beginning in the 2026-27 academic year.

The Lancers' co-ed cheer team will continue to have a sideline game day unit, but the program will now add a competition team that competes within the Crossroads League and NAIA. The squad has competed in recent years as an exhibition squad, building the foundation for fully competitive status. The team has posted impressive scores and results, including topping several conference opponents.

"We are pleased to add competitive cheer next year," said Grace Director of Athletics Chad Briscoe. "Coach Durando has done a phenomenal job using cheer to impact lives for Christ, and we are excited for her continued leadership on this elevated stage."

The addition of competitive cheer aligns with Grace's strategic growth initiative as the institution continues to experience strong enrollment numbers.

Grace's cheer program will continue to be led by Jessica Durando, who is in her fifth season guiding the Lancers.

"This team has worked for multiple years to enter the competition space and has thrived in their opportunities to showcase their hard work and talent. This will be a highlight of my coaching career," Durando said. "I am grateful to President Flamm, Chad Briscoe and the Grace administration for approving the addition of competitive cheer. I would also like to extend a thanks to all of our cheer members who have grown the program to this moment and to everyone who has supported our team, most importantly my husband and two children. As always, may this program glorify God in all that we do."

Prospective student-athletes interested in joining Grace's competitive cheer team can email cheer@grace.edu or fill out a recruit questionnaire here.
