Box Score FORT WAYNE, Ind. - Grace College's Men's soccer team dropped the Crossroads League opener 3-0 to St. Francis on Wednesday night.

The Lancers (2-4-3, 0-1 Crossroads League) were within one goal until a pair of late markers for the Cougars put the game out of reach.

Grace and USF (6-3-1, 1-0 CL) traded corner kicks early, but neither side had a shot attempt through the first 26 minutes of play.

The Cougars were the first to threaten with an attack that was whistled dead because of an offside call, then a minute later had a try towards goal that was blocked by a Grace defender.

Henrique Pereira had a shot that forced a save from the Cougars' keeper in the 31st minute but it was all the offense the Lancers could muster in the first half.

USF. fired back 30 seconds later on a quick counter attack and then broke through for the game's first goal in the 34th minute.

The Cougars had one more shot late in the half but the game entered the half with the Cougars leading 1-0.

Grace was outshot 4-1 in the half while both teams had a corner kick.

The second half started with a shot from Mateus Pereira then the Cougars had two yellow cards.

In the 62nd minute USF had a corner kick and a shot as they enjoyed the vast majority of possession in the half.

Grace had two corner kicks in quick succession as they sought the equalizer but after being unable to find goal, the Cougars had three shots in a flurry in front of the net, the third of which slid into goal to put the Lancers in a two-goal hole.

Both sides played physically down the stretch with six fouls and three yellow cards over the next 10 minutes.

The Lancers were unable to produce a threatening attack and the Cougars scored one final time in the final seconds to seal the game for the Cougars 3-0.

The Lancers were outshot 12-4 and had two fewer corner kicks. USF was whistled for 14 fouls compared to Grace's eight.

The Lancers will return to action on Saturday at 7 P.M. when they host Huntington.
