MISHAWAKA, Ind. - Grace's volleyball team produced a memorable sweep of Bethel on Wednesday night.
The No. 23 Lancers (18-3, 6-1 Crossroads League) continued their stay tied atop the league standings with a 3-0 road victory.
The victory also marks a milestone in program history. Grace head coach Katie Hill recorded her 214th career coaching win, making her the all-time winningest coach in the team's storied history.
Grace had little trouble outpacing the Pilots (7-14, 1-6 CL), displaying 43 kills on a .227 percentage while holding BU to 23 kills on a negative hitting percentage (-.029).
The first set was a rout. Grace claimed seven of the first eight points and never looked back. The Lancers rolled to a 25-11 victory. The Pilots were held to five kills and nine attack errors in the set.
In the second set, Grace used a 9-2 spurt to gain an early edge. Leah Henderson had a pair of kills during the run.
The Pilots tried to piece together a response in the closing stages, but Grace's margin was too large. Anna Elkin ended the set 25-20 with a kill.
The teams traded points for much of the third set. The score was even at 15s, but Grace exploded with a 7-1 run to take control, including kills from Emily Uhlmann, Leah Henderson, Abby Leffring and Savannah Clawson.
Clawson wrapped up the match with a kill as Grace won 25-18.
Clawson led all players with 10 kills (.292 percentage) to go along with four block assists. Leffring had eight kills and five block assists, and Henderson had nine kills and three block assists.
Reagan Owens amassed 15 digs, and Elkin added five kills with eight digs.
Carsyn Witt (15 assists) and Emily Uhlmann (12 assists) directed Grace's offense.
The Lancers next have two home matches in a row. Grace will host Goshen on Saturday at 1 p.m. and No. 7 Indiana Wesleyan on Wednesday, Sept. 30, at 7 p.m. Grace and IWU are currently tied for first in the league standings.
