WINONA LAKE, Ind. -
Josh Cruz scored with 45 seconds left to give Grace College's men's soccer team a 1-1 tie with Westcliff on Monday morning.
Both teams scored in the final 20 minutes of Monday's contest, with the Lancers' (2-2-2) goal coming on a last minute desperation chance.
Martim Alpoim had the first chance of the game and nearly put the Lancers ahead 10 minutes into the game.
Just moments later Westcliff was awarded a set-piece opportunity and the ensuing kick nearly found the top of goal but
Ben Kenn tipped the ball over the crossbar to keep the score level.
At the middle of the half the Lancers worked the ball deep into the attacking third and
Josh Cruz tried a close shot from a tight angle that hit the side of the net.
As the half entered the later portions the Warriors began to have the majority of possession.
A quick counter attack saw the Warriors get consecutive chances. Kenn made an athletic save on the first and
Vasco Tavares blocked the second.
Westcliff continued to bombard the Lancers with shots, including a point blank try that sailed high of the goal.
At the half the Lancers were being outshot 7-2 and had one less corner kick. Kenn made three saves.
The second started as a midfield battle with both teams jostling for possession.
 When Westcliff gained the ball they wasted little time in building their attack. The Warriors had the first five shots of the half and numerous scoring chances.
The first goal of the game with just under 20 minutes left. The Warriors were awarded a corner kick and the ensuing try bounced in the box and was then lifted into the corner of the goal.
After surrendering the goal Grace continued to be on their back foot. Westcliff had the next five shots and Kenn was forced to make a kick save to keep the Lancers within striking distance.
With 12 minutes left the Lancers began to control possession as they made a push for the equalizer.
Mateus Pereira had a chance that drifted wide and Tavares then headed a shot towards goal but it was easily handled by the keeper.
As the clock ticked under a minute left the Lancers would find their goal. The Lancers took  possession deep in their own territory and Kenn sent a kick that traveled nearly the length of the pitch.
Cruz collected the pass just inside Westcliff's box and quickly blasted a shot that snuck through the keeper to tie the game in dramatic fashion.
The Lancers were outshot 18-5 and had two corner kicks to the Warrior's four. Kenn made five saves.
