SANTA CLARITA, Calif. - Grace's women's soccer team slipped in their 2013 premier to The Master's College, 4-0 on Thursday.

The Lady Lancers tallied 10 shots and eight shots on goal in the 90-degree temperature, but they struggled to make their shots count against the Mustangs.

Grace nearly scored in the first minute of play when forward Mallory Rondeau surprised The Master's defense, but her shot inside the box sailed high of the crossbar.

Rondeau broke free again midway through the first half, but her low shot from the left side of the field was saved by The Master's.

In the 28th minute the Mustangs scored their first goal of the season on a 25-yard shot that beat Grace's defense.

Head coach Michael Voss increased Grace's offensive pressure during the halftime break, resulting in three shots for the Lady Lancers over the first eight minutes of the second half. Unfortunately for the Lady Lancers, the Mustangs were efficient in the second half with three goals on 10 shots to pull away from Grace.

Individually, Rondeau led Grace's offense with three shots, while Carianne Sobey added two shots on goal.

"Tonight was not what we were trying to achieve, but you always have to get that one out of your system. Overall we had some great sections of minutes," said head coach Michael Voss. "We created several fantastic opportunities to score. Our team shape needs work to get to a full 90, but we will continue to improve, I have no doubt. There's just no way to prepare for 110 degree heat index on the turf, but I thought the women really battled throughout."

The Lady Lancers continue their stiff nonleague schedule on Saturday when they travel further west to the Pacific coastline to face Westmont at 7 p.m. EDT.
