In the opening game, the Cougars (22-10, 15-5 CL) pulled away late to win 7-0. Spring Arbor pushed across a run in the bottom of the first inning, and the game stayed 1-0 through the turn of the fourth inning.
The Cougars tacked on three more runs in the fourth, one in the fifth and two more in the sixth.

Neither team managed to score a run over the first four innings, but Spring Arbor finally broke through in the fifth. The Cougars pulled ahead 3-0 off of three hits and a walk.
Grace responded with a run of its own in the top of the sixth when Frank Rocchio came home to score on a wild throw.
Austin Baker gave Grace hope in the seventh inning when he pinch hit for a leadoff double. He advanced to third base on a bunt during the next at-bat, but the Lancers were unable to complete the rally with two straight putouts to the second baseman.
Rocchio was the only Lancer with multiple hits in the outing, hitting 2-for-3 with a double and a run scored. Matt Morgart and Logan Grigsby were each 1-for-2.
