SOUTH BEND, Ind. - Grace's track and field teams kicked off the indoor season with a pair of meets at Notre Dame and Purdue Fort Wayne.
The Lancers hit multiple NAIA standards in the initial meet at Notre Dame, called the Blue and Gold Invitational.
Kylie Sauder and Heather Plastow both hit the NAIA "A" standard in the mile. Plastow ran 5:03.26 for a new school record, and Sauder was just behind at 5:04.91.Â
They were part of a sensational miler crew for the Lady Lancers that included Tara Friesen (5:23.8) and Anna Hulstedt (5:24.9). All four hit personal bests in the race.
Dimitri Margaritidis also set a new school record, hitting a major PR in the 3,000-meter race. His time of 8:22.74 broke the school record by two seconds, and he also hit the NAIA "A" standard in the process.
Sauder also hit the NAIA "B" standard in the 800 with a time of 2:18.16.
Nordia Campbell ran a 25.59 in the 200, and Josh Pike cleared 20-feet-7.75 in the long jump.
In the women's 400, a trio of freshmen got their first races under their belts, including Olivia Adkins (1:02.38), Malia Butler (1:05.55) and Karris Sigler (1:09.21).
Grace also competed at Purdue Fort Wayne's Mastodon Opener. Brock Lengacher placed fifth in both the shot put (45-feet-3.75) and the weight throw (46-0.75).
Additionally, Claire Horvath and Emily McCreary each cleared 4-11.75 in the high jump.
The Lancers will compete again on Jan. 14 for the Sean Brady Invitational at Trine.
