FORT WAYNE, Ind. - A last-minute meet at Indiana Tech resulted in a number of strong performances for Grace's track and field team.
The Lancers were originally scheduled to compete at Trine, but the meet was canceled. An abbreviated five-event meet was put together at Indiana Tech, however, allowing Grace to send a group of student-athletes.
Noah Zimmerman broke a nine-year-old school record (Nathan Brown) in the long jump, hitting an NAIA "B" standard with a leap of 23-feet-2.5.
Freshman Breanna Hyde set the women's long jump school record as well; she cleared 17-4.75 to improve an eight-year record (Jo Boren).
Additionally, Grace had five throwers hit personal bests.
Brock Lengacher heaved the weight throw 50-4.5 to shatter his previous PR, and freshman Connor Etchison tossed his at a distance of 37-10.75. Lanae Crowe hit a PR of 42-0.5 in the weight throw.
In the shot put, Bryce Willard (41-11.75) and Crowe (35-3.25) hit PRs. Mackenzie Parker won the event with a toss of 38-7.75.
In the women's high jump, Emily McCreary and Makayla Neal each cleared 4-10.5. Justin Farris topped 6 feet in the men's high jump.
"This is by far the best I've had my athletes perform coming off of a winter break. It demonstrates the discipline and work ethic that our student-athletes had during their time away from school," said Grace head coach Michael Moffitt. "Almost all our athletes either hit a personal record or opened up the year better than they ever have. There's a lot to be excited about, and I can't wait to have our full squad back next week."
Next up, the Lancers will return to Indiana Tech on Friday with their complete squad.
