MARION, Ind. - Grace's track and field teams put up strong results at the 120th annual Little State Championships over the weekend.
Grace's men and women placed ninth in the meet, competing against most of the non-NCAA Div. I schools in the state.
The women excelled in the high jump. Emily McCreary was the runner-up (5-feet-1.25), and Sophie Rupp was fourth (4-11.5).
Addison Grady earned fifth place in the 1,500 with a time of 4:53.89, and Tame Baylis was fourth in the 10,000 in 38:25.23.
Grace Pettit was fifth in the 3,000 steeplechase (11:59.25), and Makayla Neal was fifth in the long jump (16-3.75).
Olivia Adkins ran in both the 4x100 and the 4x400, helping both units place sixth. Other runners in the 4x100 were Lillian Richmond, Kaitlyn Strietelmeier and Emma Conrad, and the 4x400 included Grady, Cadence Manning and Rupp.
Lanae Crowe earned eighth in the discus (129-5), 20th in the hammer (125-8) and 22nd in the javelin (86-10).
On the men's side, Grace scored big in the javelin. Josiah Thompson won the event with a heave of 168-11, and Carter Paeschke was just behind him in second (163-11). Clayton Martin also nabbed ninth in the event (145-6).
Michael Muiruri finished fourth in the triple jump (44-5.5).
Brady Hunsberger grabbed third place in the 1,500 at 3:54.61, and Brandon Kleber (4:03.58) and Cole Johnston (4:04.35) finished 11th and 12th respectively.
Carter Clear was fifth in the 3,000 steeplechase (9:57.32), and he teamed up with Hunsberger, John Young and Caleb Nichols for fifth in the 4x800 relay (7:51.05).
The Lancers are next scheduled to compete at the Tiffin Invitational in Ohio on April 19.
