INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - Grace's track and field teams continued their strong start to the outdoor season at the Marian Knight Open on Friday.
The Lancers had multiple event winners and numerous national qualifying marks.
Mick Wright continued his standout season by winning the 100-meter dash, breaking the tape in a time of 10.62 seconds.
The women's 4x400 relay team also won their race. The quartet of Kila Foster, Cherish Ray, Sophie Rupp and Morgan Welch crossed the finish line in 4:09.97.
The men's javelin duo of Carter Paeschke (159-1) and Clayton Martin (154-1) finished second and third respectively in the meet. Molly Hofmann was ninth in the women's javelin (79-8).
The men's 4x100 squad of Michael Muiruri, Mick Wright, Ethan Cummins and Paul Semple ended in third place with a finish of 42.32 seconds.
Caleb Nichols ran a time of 1:58.72 in the 800 to grab fifth place, Cummins posted sixth in the 200 (22.51), and Muiruri grabbed ninth in the 110 hurdles (15.93).
Blake McCoy placed sixth in the high jump with a height of 5-feet-11.25, and Zach Vonk was 10th in the long jump (19-11.5).
On the women's side, Welch claimed fourth place in the 1,500 (4:52.73), and Ray grabbed fifth place in the 800 (2:19.33). Addi Dewey was eighth in the 1,500 (4:59.44).
The women's 4x100 squad of Olivia Davis, Foster, Addie Gustus and Paula Fernandez produced a fourth-place finish at 51.65.
Rupp was second in the high jump with a leap of 4-11.75, and Lani Calizo also cleared the same height.
Grace also had two runners compete at the North Central Distance Fling, both competing in the 10,000. Cece Mitchell won the race in a blazing time of 36:17.22; her time reached an NAIA "B" standard and shattered the previous school record. Mitchell broke the the nine-year-old record by nearly a minute (Raven Arellano, 2017). Emma Long was 14th in the race (41:13.54).
The Lancers are back on the track on Thursday for a meet at Indiana Tech.
