MARION, Ind. - The outdoor season started in style for Grace's track and field program.
The Lancers won two events and set two school records in the process at the IWU Polar Bear Classic.
Mick Wright cemented his status as the fastest Lancer in school history with a record-breaking performance in the 100-meter dash.
During the indoor season, Wright wrote and rewrote the record for the 60 meters. On Saturday he lowered his record in the outdoor 100 meters to 10.55 seconds, winning the race in the process.
Wright was also eighth in the 200 (21.76 seconds).
Michael Muiruri also won his event in record-breaking fashion. Muiruri cleared 46-feet-11.5 in the triple jump, improving his school record by over a foot.
Cherish Ray earned third place in the 400 with a time of 58.95 seconds, and Kila Foster posted a fifth-place finish in the 100 dash at 12.60 seconds.
Luke Mansfield was seventh in the men's 400 hurdles (56.82), and Addie Gustus was ninth in the women's race (1:12.55).
Caleb Nichols was 10th in the 800 (2:00.20), and Hunter Quadlin was 10th in the 1,500 (4:08.07).
Two members of Grace's 5,000 crew earned top-10 finishes. Addi Dewey was fifth (18:47.66), and Grace Pettit was ninth (18:58.21).
Sophie Rupp and Lani Calizo tied for fourth in the high jump (4-11.75). Zach Vonk placed seventh in the long jump (20-7.25) and ninth in the triple jump (39-6).
Abby Affholter had a strong showing, placing eighth in the shot put (35-5) and ninth in the discus (110-10).
Two Lancers placed well in the men's javelin; Carter Paeschke was fifth (165-7), and Clayton Martin was ninth (154-1).
The Lancers' next outdoor meet is on Friday with a trip to Marian.
