Box Score 2 HUNTINGTON, Ind. - Grace College's softball team saw weather play havoc in its doubleheader against Huntington on Saturday afternoon.
The first game went to the Foresters (21-10, 10-7 Crossroads League) 8-0 and was played through sloppy conditions. Rain continued to pour throughout the day and game two was suspended in the top of the seventh inning with the score tied at four runs apiece. Since the game had reached the necessary five innings when it was halted, it will end as a 4-4 tie.
The Lancers (7-20, 3-18 CL) fell behind 5-0 early in the contest and struggled to find offensive consistency as conditions worsened throughout the game.
Daylie Rickard and
Bree Gardinier each reached safely in the second inning. It was the only time Grace would have multiple runners on base.
Halle Nett doubled in the third inning and Rickard added another single in the fourth but Grace was unable to plate a run as they fell 8-0 in game one.
In game two Grace was the first to draw blood.
Tia O'Connor was hit by a pitch to start the second frame and Gardinier immediately scored her with a RBI double.
Montana Brincks added to the Lancer's advantage with a single that scored Gardinier from second base.
Huntington cut the lead in half in the third inning before Grace responded in the fifth when
Sydney Argo had a hard hit single through the middle of the infield that brought Nett in to score. The Foresters added another run in the home half of the fifth inning.
A pair of Grace seniors teamed up in the sixth inning as Duran brought Gardinier in to score to push the Lancers' lead to 4-2.
The lead wouldn't last long though as the Foresters added two runs in the bottom of the frame to tie the game at four.
The seventh inning started with
Sami Lemler being hit by a pitch before the umpires suspended play due to the deteriorating playing conditions.
