Grace wins six events on final day of NCCAA Nationals


 

DAY ONE RECAP HERE


CEDARVILLE, Ohio - The final day of the 2023 NCCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships saw Grace's squad garner several national titles.

The Lancers won six events on Saturday. Overall, Grace's men's team placed fourth out of 18 teams, and the women finished in fifth place in the nation.

Additionally, members of Grace's team had three other podium finishes (top-three) with each of those events garnering NCCAA All-American status as a result.

The men's 4x800-meter relay was ground-breaking for Grace. The foursome of Luke Smith, Dimitri Margaritidis, Tanner Sallee and Logan Rufenacht won the title with an NAIA "A" time of 7:49.85. Their mark set an NCCAA indoor record and also set the fieldhouse record at Cedarville.

Grace swept the golds in the mile. Bryan Hernandez-Rios ran a blistering race at 4:11.81, an NAIA "A" time which also set the NCCAA indoor record and Cedarville's fieldhouse record.

Heather Plastow won in the women's mile. Her time of 5:05.66 was an NAIA "A" standard.

The women's 800 saw Grace earn points in three positions. Kylie Sauder won the race in 2:17.25 (an NAIA "B" time), Tara Friesen was sixth in 2:22.96, and Anna Hulstedt was right behind in seventh place at 2:23.32.

Grace's men's 800 squad nabbed four of the eight scoring positions. Margaritidis won gold in 1:57.21. Sallee finished fourth in the race (2:00.73), Luke Smith was sixth (2:01.61) and Carter Clear ended in seventh (2:02.15).

The women's 4x400 also claimed first place with the quartet of Olivia Adkins, Zoe Huley, Tara Friesen and Kylie Sauder breaking the tape in 4:05.18.

The men's 4x400 ended the running events with a silver performance. Smith, Michael Williams, Rufenacht and Sallee produced a time of 3:27.51.

Olivia Adkins nabbed the bronze finish in the 400, breaking the tape in 1:01.76

Zaryn Rumfelt earned the bronze in the shot put with a heave of 45-feet-2.5, and Noah Zimmerman placed fourth in the long jump when he leaped 21-feet-9.75.

Makayla Neal grabbed a point by finishing eighth in the 60 hurdles (10.12 seconds).
